How to Conduct Yourself at a Corporate Christmas Party
Everyone has been told at some point ‘be on your best behaviour’ whether it’s a Christmas party they are attending at age 5 or 36. However, it is much harder when you are older to know exactly how to behave at the yearly Corporate Christmas party. As a kid it was so simple – don’t be obnoxious, rude or think it’s a good idea to throw cake at people – now as an adult we have all these conventions and rules to abide by, which alter according to culture and the setting. Here’s a few ways to be as good as gold at that Corporate Christmas party without sucking all the fun out of it!
First impressions always count, so when you do attend your annual corporate Christmas party it is vital that you make that intended impression. One of the ways is through what you wear. Keeping it smart, simple but fun will certainly show your professional sheen without being boring. Avoid under dressing and over dressing – this can be done by asking the boss prior to the event the sort of attire expected, or consulting with everyone else what they are going to wear.
Consult with the boss if there is anything else expected. Some corporations complete a secret Santa, so get informed about any such activity; otherwise you may look foolish turning up on the night without a gift to exchange.
Corporate Christmas parties are social events, therefore you will need to socialize. However, this does not mean you do have to chat with everyone, nor ignore loads of people. Chat with the people you know if you are too shy to go up to anyone else. Just make sure you don’t segregate yourself from everyone as this can look really anti-social. Otherwise feel free to chat with everyone, but always be polite – this is the number one rule at corporate Christmas parties and must not be broken. Avoid the likes of gossip too as being associate with a gossipy crowd can get you into trouble or simply disliked. Remember they are likely to gossip about you too, so try not to trust them too much.
Although it may seem great that all the drinks are on the house, it may not be so good for your reputation nor the morning afterwards. Stick to drinks that you can personally handle and try not to have too many of them. Be responsible but still enjoy the night – and you will find that the night has been a success!
Avoid eating too much as well. Even though it is tempting to try everything on the menu, you may regret it later on. Eating too much can make you feel ill, bloated (you don’t want to look bloated in your outfit) and often does not bode well with alcohol. Have a good sized portion and try not to take any of the extra food home as this looks unsophisticated!

Etiquette Christmas Gift Boss Questions
What can I buy my boss for Christmas?
We are doing a secret santa at work and I was unfortunate enough to get my bosses name out the hat! I now have to spend between £8 – £10 on a gift for him but have no idea what to buy! I’ve only been in my job a short while and don’t really know what he likes or what the etiquette is – ie joke presents or serious!!! Help!!!!
Chocolates/Candy -Food is always a good gift. Or if you know a store he like then a gift card to that. Or a magizine subscription to something he is interested in. Try to talk to him a little to get more of an idea
