Doctor Who merchandise is still a big draw for Christmas

There’s been a selection of licensed Doctor Who toys and collectibles available nearly as long as there have been adversaries for the famous Time Lord. Through the years there have been some very memorable Doctor Who toys and other stuff, such as the renowned 60s Dalek costumes for children, and a few that haven’t been quite so great (the Dapol figures may come to mind). Fortunately, with the persistent huge popularity of Doctor Who toys, merchandise and DVDs, the phenomenon appears set to be around for a good long while yet.

This is great. I’ve personally adored Doctor Who for around twenty years, and was thrilled when it came back onto our television sets back in 2005. Certainly, there’s been one or two less than brilliant episodes since it returned, but these are very much in the minority. Christopher Eccleston’s brilliant (or should that be ‘fantastic’?) 9th Doctor brought the television series back in great style, but it was the era of David Tennant’s tenth Doctor that really saw the show take its place as a global phenomenon.

Doctor Who is more popular at present (and much more respected) than it ever was throughout the original 1963-1989 run, and since it came back it has incorporated some of the best talent the British TV and film trade has to offer, both behind and in front of the camera. The selection of Doctor Who toys at this time around is huge and suitably varied for enthusiasts young and old, who have a massive choice of games, toys, statues, posters and more to improve their collection with.

Plus, with the era of the 11th Doctor about to commence, ushering in Matt Smith in the lead role as our heroic Time Lord, everything will change again and a whole new array of Doctor Who toys and collectibles will be revealed, boasting the new logo, the new version of the Doctor, his new companion, the new version of the TARDIS and a new rogue’s gallery of monsters and villains!

The massive return of Doctor Who took the old fans by surprise (as much as we wanted it, we honestly never thought it would be this huge), but it had been the sheer extent of its popularity that has stunned everyone even more. At this point there are Doctor Who toys, merchandise and collectibles around at all of the best stores and on all of the top sites on the net, and therefore the series will keep on growing and changing. The knowledge that this rickety old show that old school fans loved so much, and which had faded into obscurity, could come back and become the greatest thing on TV is wonderful. Just like the Doctor himself, the range of Doctor Who toys and merchandise keeps on regenerating!

How do I tell my parents I want to replace this laptop?

My parents gave me a laptop as a gift (I think it was Christmas) and I kept it for a while and started recently using it. I noticed that it could run mundane tasks fine, but if I wanted to play a video game or watch and HD movie the graphics card couldn’t handle it. I want to some how confront them and say something along the lines of.. “Can this still be traded in, do we still have a warranty? If not then I want to buy a new laptop with my own money.”
What would you do when you are happy they got you a gift but it’s not cutting it?

Well, the warranty wouldn’t help at all, and you’re beyond your return period. If you’re concerned about their feelings, you could say something like:
“Mom, dad, I really appreciate this laptop you guys got me, but it’s not handling my needs. Would you mind terribly if I purchased a new, better laptop for myself?”
