How Can I Clean a Longaberger Basket?

I bought a Longaberger basket off of ebay as a christmas gift for my mom. It said that it was brand new and in mint condition. When I received it I opened it up and it smells like an ash tray, and it just looks dirty. It also has cat hair stuck in the cracks. I can’t give it to my mom like this! that is DISGUSTING!!! What can i use to eliminate the smell and clean it without ruining it?

For the dirt and cat hair, try a can of that compressed air they sell to clean your computer keyboard, and as for the smell, try putting a bunch of fabric softener sheets in and around it, and seal it up in a plastic bag for a few days.
